Our skilled dentists may recommend root canal therapy if the inner nerves of your teeth have been damaged by decay or infection. Root canal treatment is often the only alternative to extracting the tooth, and it works to restore functionality and vitality so that you can save the tooth and continue to use it for many years to come.

We may recommend a root canal treatment if your teeth have the following problems:

  • Decay which reaches into the dental pulp (the living tissue inside your tooth)
  • Infection or abscess has developed within the tooth or at the root tip
  • Trauma or injury have damaged the inner portions of the tooth

Our dentists will begin your treatment by removing pulp, nerve tissue, bacteria and any tooth decay or other damage present inside the tooth. Once the damaged tissue has been removed and the tooth cleaned, we will fill the tooth with medicated material and seal it against future decay. A temporary filling or crown will be placed to protect the tooth while your final restoration is made. Depending on the severity of the damage, this may occur at the same appointment or at another appointment. After completing your crown, we will place it over the treated tooth to finish restoring its health, function and appearance.

After completing your root canal treatment, please practice good oral hygiene and visit Remington Family Dental for preventive care regularly. This will help prevent future infection and decay and improve your oral health.
